David James is Assistant Principal – Head of Education Division and Regional Dean.
Previously David was appointed Principal and Chief Executive of Oatridge College in 2002. Following the merger in October 2012 of four of Scotland’s Land based Colleges’ – Barony, Elmwood, Oatridge and the Scottish Agriculture College – David was appointed Assistant Principal Further Education and Dean within Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC). In January 2016 he was promoted to Head of Education Division.
In his role David James is charged with overseeing the seamless integration of four highly successful organisations to ensure that the provision of further education meets the needs of employers and learners, not just in Scotland and the UK, but internationally. His ambition remains the same: That all students are given the opportunity to be the best they can be.
The SFC in 2013, recognising there was a need to develop a set of structures to facilitate the process of planning and co-ordinating land-based provision across the sector, set up the Land Based Providers Group (LBPG),which was chaired by David on behalf of SRUC, to work closely in partnership and negotiate provision across Scotland. The SFC in late 2014 asked SRUC to lead on the development of a National Strategy for Land-Based Education and Training and David was seconded on a part time basis to the project as Land-Based Strategy Director. The National Strategy for Land-Based Education and Training was published in August 2015.
